A Whale of an Adventure

Cabo’s Capella Pedregal Gives Guests An Up-Close View of One of Nature’s Great Spectacles

CABO SAN LUCAS, MEXICO – December 1, 2009 – When the weather turns cold, it’s a natural instinct to head for warmer climes. For discerning travelers, that might mean a winter escape to Cabo San Lucas’ exclusive new Capella Pedregal, where just offshore they can witness the seasonal playground of another sun-seeking creature: the gray whale, whose 6,000-mile journey from northern seas is the longest annual migration of any mammal. And now, a special Whale Watching at Capella package offers guests an unforgettable opportunity to view these magnificent creatures up close, as they frolic in the warm waters of the Sea of Cortez, combined with the unbeatable value of a fourth night free at this intimate, 66-room hideaway.

Available January 3 through March 31, 2010, the offer includes:

  • Four nights’ accommodations for the price of three
  • Full breakfast for two each day
  • A four-hour excursion for up to six guests on the Carina, a 60-foot Viking Sport Cruiser, stocked with a selection of beverages and snacks
  • Private car transfer to and from Los Cabos Marina
  • Dinner for the full party at El Farallon Ocean Side Terrace upon return to the hotel
  • A resort credit based on room type for each paid night, ranging from $100 per day for an Ocean View room to $350 per day for an Estrella Suite
  • Complimentary in-room amenities including a refreshment center stocked with selected beverages and waters, a welcome amenity, daily afternoon amenity, and wireless Internet access

Rates for this special offer start at $1,400 per night. A 13% tax and 15% service charge are additional.

All Capella Pedregal guests who visit during the whales’ seasonal “residency” are provided with in-room binoculars to enhance their views of the creatures, who are often visible to the naked eye from the guest room’s balcony or terrace. A special horn will signal the whales’ arrival so that guests may catch a glimpse of the magnificent mammals.  The resort’s prized and secluded cliffside setting, at the point where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez, makes it ideally situated to see the whales in action.

From mid to late fall, gray whales make the long journey from their summer homes in the Bering and Chukchi Seas between Alaska and Siberia to winter in the warm waters of Baja California and the Sea of Cortez. They arrive in late December to seek shelter from the frigid northern waters and to birth their young.
